Happy Holidays
Dear friends,
Gratitude as the attitude
As we near the end of the year and the festive season & New Year quickly approaches, we would just like to express our heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of our students and supporters over this past year for your kindness, loyalty, love, patience and support. We truly appreciate each and every one of you. The studio and its calm and peaceful energy would not be what it is today without your presence - so thank you from all of us at Yoga Connection for a wonderful 2024!
We would also like to place the spotlight on our teachers, thank you for all of your creativity, patience, love, diligence, understanding and most of all for your love of this ancient practice and how you uniquely convey your classes to your students. We have had some wonderful classes and workshops this year and we are truly grateful to everyone who made it happen!
To our two new teachers that joined us, Rodney and Spring, we just want to give you a warm welcome and would like to thank you for making Yoga Connection your own as well. These two lovely teachers have brought Vinyasa back to the studio and if you have not joined one of their classes we highly recommend you do so! Both classes are centered around mindful movements with the breath, Spring teaches every Wednesday evening from 6pm to 7pm and Rodney teaches every Friday morning from 9am to 10am.
Studio Matters
The studio will be closed from the 19th of December 2024 and will re-open on the 6th of January 2025. Please have a look below at our calendar so that you may plan your classes.
The renovations to the studio are complete and we are really loving the beautiful upgrades that have been done, from a new fresh coat of paint and new doors to beautiful lights, statues and a lending library. We really hope to welcome you and have you continue to think of it and make it your favourite space, a place to feel safe, loved, strong and most importantly content and at peace. If you have not come to see the new renovations please do so!
We have also slightly changed our payment options as we recognized that the way it was set up was confusing and so we have just made it easier. For more details on our new pricing please see our Fees page.
Happy Holidays
With all of the above being said, we would like to wish you a fantastic holiday season filled with love, joy, kindness, gratitude and of course (most importantly ;)) YOGA! So with that we would like to leave you with a few postures that we invite you to do every day to keep up with your practice over the festive season:
Tadasana - Even though this may seem like one of the easiest postures to do, if done mindfully it is not and it can be made more challenging.. Try it next time with looking up at your hands as you stretch your arms up or raise one leg to be parallel with the floor while the other remains on its tippy toes! And if you have mastered that... try it with your eyes closed! This asana is extremely beneficial to the spine. The entire spine is stretched and loosened, helping to clear up congestion of the spinal nerves at the points where they emerge from the spinal column. It helps to increase height by stretching the muscles and ligaments, enabling growing bones to grow longer. Tadasana stretches the rectus abdomini muscles and the intestines and is useful during the first six months of pregnancy to keep the abdominal muscles and nerves toned.
Tiryak Tadasana - the benefits are the same as for Tadasana, but it especially massages, loosens and exercises the sides of the waist and it balances the right and left groups of postural muscles.
Kati Chakrasana - This asana tones the neck, shoulders, waist, back and hips. It is useful for correcting back stiffness and postural problems. The relaxation and twisting movement induces a feeling of lightness and may be used to relieve physical and mental tension at any time during the day.
Then, add in any other supine or reclined twist that you love along with a forward and backward bending posture as well as one balancing and one inverted posture. If you can keep up with these eight postures every day during the holidays your body will thank you in the new year and your progress will not stiffle.
THANK YOU!
With that we leave you with a quote by B.K.S. Iyengar: "Yoga is a light which once lit will never dim, the better your practice the brighter your flame".
Love and Namaste
The Yoga Connection Team
